Fiber Optic Splice Technician Trainee No prior Experience, preferred

Light-Line, Fiber Optics Services, LLC

Newton, Ks

Are you interested in a daily change of scenery? Like to travel? Good with your hands? Smarter than the average working stiff? Not interested, or not finding your path with college or trade school (or looking for a different trade), but still interested in a career with $100,000/year plus potential??

Light-Line, Fiber Optic Services, LLC is looking to hire a motivated candidate to train in all aspects of fiber optic splicing and testing. This position is an entry opportunity into a field that continues to grow and offers income and benefits not found in many occupations today. Ideal candidates should have a high degree of self-motivation, organization skills, the ability to complete daily tasks with minimal to no supervision, and a strong sense of pride in work and personal accountability. Qualified individuals must have exceptional spatial reasoning skills, problem-solving and preplanning abilities, hand-eye coordination, patience, and an ability to focus on tasks at hand.

Fiber splicing requires the ability to frequently work outside in adverse weather, in uncomfortable positions, on ladders and bucket trucks, in rain, mud and snow, often for long hours. The ability to work at heights of up to 20’ and to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. is a requirement. This position requires travel around Kansas and to surrounding states.  A clean driving record, with good/safe driving skills is a must. A CDL is not required, however the vehicles you will be operating are large and the operation/towing of trailers is common.

Upon hiring, you, the trainee will begin an initial two-week evaluation period where your potential aptitude will be assessed. The trainee will receive $15/hr. for all time spent on the job during this period.

NOTE: Accommodations can be made to fit the schedule of a current job (days off for example) to permit the applicant to assess their interest while maintaining their current job.

During this time, you will have an opportunity to see the work process and experience a little of the rewards and challenges of the field and determine if it is a good fit for you. Understand, this is a career path; if hired please take this trial period as an opportunity to honestly assess if this is a career you wish to pursue.

After the two-week evaluation period, you will enter a 60-day interim training period where you will receive 20$/hr. During this time, the trainee will continue to be assessed for their aptitude to perform the work.

After 60 days, if the trainee is retained, they will be eligible for health Insurance/work benefits and they will receive an additional hourly pay raise TBD at that time. As the employees’ skills advance over time, performance-based raises will be given. Other positions: splicing foreman, project manager, etc. are available and on the table.

Understand, Fiber Optic Splicing is a highly skilled profession that not everyone can do. It is mentally and physically demanding and frequently requires long hours. However, it has the potential (for those who master it) to pay more than $100k per year and provide a great deal of work flexibility. Employees can take personal time and set their schedules to a degree (with consideration for client scheduled work and on call status) to allow for life events and obligations.

If you think this is a career path you may be interested in, submit your resume with the usual info, work history, school, etc. but also include a brief, a paragraph is fine, explanation of your interest and why you think you would be a good fit for this position.

Light-Line is an equal opportunity employer.

Women, minorities, LGBTQ are all strongly encouraged to apply.

We look forward to hearing from You!!
